No. 14 LBSU Dominate No. 16 Stetson, Fall to No. 4 Loyola Marymount

The Beach split their Tuesday tri-dual at the LBSU Sand Courts.
Long Beach, CALIF. – No. 14 Long Beach State split their tri-dual on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over No. 19 Stetson University, but suffered a loss against No. 4 Loyola Marymount, 3-2. The Beach are no 1-3 to open up their 2022 season.
After a tough loss against the No. 11 Cal this past Saturday, the Beach dominated the Hatters this morning. Each match ended in two sets while Holland Jackson & Sydney Stevens sets extended to three. They were able to defeat Gabriella Bramante and Karin Zolnercikova with a score of 15-13 in the third flight. Only one flight was lost against the Hatters. The duo of Emily Mattoon and Jillian Rodriguez had the quickest outing with a score of 21-14 and 21-9 in the fourth flight.
In the second dual of the day, Long Beach State's duo of Mattoon and Rodriguez had a close match in their first set winning 26-24. With momentum on their side, they were able to finish off the Lions in their second set, 21-16, and give the Beach their first point. Alice Pratesi and Skyler Germann first flight got off to a slow start as well falling 21-14 in their first set. However, they were able to win the next two sets with a score of 22-20 and 17-15 in a close match against the Lions, claiming the first flight.
Before flight number one commenced, Long Beach State's duo Sydney Stevens and Holland Jackson just fell short to push it to a third set and potentially even the score. They fell 21-19 in their first set and 21-16 in their second set. By this third flight, the Lions were able to secure the dual by obtaining their third point.
The Beach return to action this Saturday, March 5 with a pair of top five matchups against the No. 2 UCLA Bruins and No. 11 Cal Poly.
