SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. –
Long Beach State erased a 14-point deficit to come from behind and defeat Cal Poly, 65-64, in double overtime on Saturday afternoon in an exciting road victory.

Long Beach State (15-3, 8-2 Big West) rallied in the fourth quarter as the Beach went on a 14-2 run to tie the game and force overtime against Cal Poly (2-14, 1-6 Big West) who had led for 33 minutes in regulation.

The Beach and the Mustangs battled each other point for point in the overtime period and found themselves deadlocked at 56-56 going into double overtime. Once again, the conference foes fought each other, trading leads back and forth. It went down to the wire as Kianna Hamilton-Fisher made a second-chance layup to give the Beach a 65-64 lead with just 0.4 seconds remaining that would be the eventual game-winner.

LBSU had four players reach double-figures as Maddi Utti led the way with 17 points, while adding eight rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block. Ma'Qhi Berry and Justina King each contributed 13 points, while Jasmine Hardy rounded out the quartet with 11.

Prior to the fourth quarter, Cal Poly held the lead most of the way. The Mustangs led the Beach by as many as 14 points (47-33) in the third quarter. But Long Beach State continued to chip away at the Mustangs' lead and cut Cal Poly's lead down to nine (47-38) at the end of the frame.

The Beach continued their gritty style of play and made it a two-possession game (50-44) after scoring six-straight points. Long Beach State went on to use a 14-2 run, highlighted by a pair of threes from Hardy, to even the score at 52-all to force overtime.

Long Beach State finished the game shooting 32.9-percent from the field, while Cal Poly shot 41.7-percent.

The Mustangs finished the game with three double-digit scorers in Hannah Scanlan (18 points), Kirsty Brown (18 points), and Annika Shah (11 points). Scanlan would finish the game with a double-double as she added 11 rebounds.

Long Beach State continues its road swing as the Beach face Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at Titan Gym. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
