Utti Leads Long Beach State Passed CSU Bakersfield, 74-63

Maddi Utti tallied a 20-point performance and a double-double in the victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Long Beach State scored 29 points in the third quarter to break open the game as the Beach used their second half run to defeat CSU Bakersfield, 74-63, on Thursday night at the Icardo Center.
LBSU (14-3, 7-2 Big West) and CSU Bakersfield (1-13, 0-5 Big West) were in a back-and-forth game in the first half as the Beach held a two-point lead (15-13) heading in to the second quarter, before the Runners claimed a two-point edge (28-26) heading into halftime.
What looked to be a close game that could go either way was blown wide open in the third quarter as the Beach outscored the Runners 29-12 and shot an impressive 62.5-percent (10-for-16) from the field as LBSU held a 55-40 lead heading into the final quarter.
Still riding the momentum of the third quarter, Long Beach State continued its run into the fourth quarter. However, CSU Bakersfield heated up in the final 10 minutes as well, cutting the Beach's lead down to seven (67-60). LBSU continued to play its game and pushed its lead back up to double-digits as they took the 74-63 win.
Long Beach State was led by senior forward Maddi Utti who recorded her fourth 20-point performance of the season to go along with her fourth double-double of the year as she finished the game with 24 points and 10 boards, while adding three assists and three steals.
Ma'Qhi Berry finished the game with a season-high 18 points, while also contributing three assits, and two boards.
Justina King also recorded double-figures for the Beach as she scored all 15 of her points in the second half to help Long Beach State upend Bakersfield.
The Road Runners were led by Jayden Eggleston (14 points), Lexus Green (12 points), and Andie Easley (10 points) who all recorded double-digits.
As a team, the Beach shot 51.1 percent from the field, while the Runners shot 42.3-percent.
Long Beach State will continue its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 5 when they take on Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif., at 2 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
