ABOUT THE BEACH
  • Long Beach State sits at No. 14 and No. 15 in the two beach volleyball polls with updated rankings scheduled to come out tomorrow.
  • The Beach had a tough start to their season falling 5-0 to the reigning national champion and No. 1 ranked USC last Thursday. On Saturday, they swept Irvine Valley in an exhibition before a hard-fought battle against No. 11 California that saw the Golden Bears win 3-2.
  • Christine Deroos and Sophie Major arguably had the best week, picking up a set against USC and winning their point against Cal. Emily Mattoon and Nicci Reinking scored the other point for the Beach against the Golden Bears.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
  • Stetson is likely to move up from their No. 19 ranking in the new polls after a perfect 4-0 start to their season last week. With two matches on both Saturday and Sunday, the Hatters took down Mercer, No. 18 South Carolina, College of Charleston, and No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast while only dropping two flights in their four duals.
  • In the all-time series between LBSU and Stetson, the Beach trails 2-3 having lost the last three meetings. The most recent came on March 8, 2020 when the Hatters won 3-2.
  • Loyola Marymount will remain a top five team after a pair of sweeps last week to begin the season. In a tri-dual on Friday, the No. 4 ranked Lions swept both CSUN and No. 11 Cal.
  • The all-time series belongs to Long Beach State with an overall record of 16-3 against LMU. However, the Lions have won the last three matchups including a pair of 3-2 victories last season.
