Long Beach State is currently undefeated in Big West play after a blowout win against UC San Diego
LONG BEACH, CALIF. - After a weekend of road matches, the Long Beach State (3-3, 3-0 Big West) women's tennis team returned to Rhodes Tennis Center to take on UC San Diego (2-8,1-4 Big West) on Saturday. The Beach was victorious against UC San Diego, 7-0.
The Beach continues their Big West winning streak, meanwhile UCSD's Big West record stands at 1-4.
"Two strong weeks of practice showed today in our match with UCSD," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm very proud of our presence on the court and smart play today."
It was a clean sweep in doubles action with all three flights taking the win against the Tritons. Top flight Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda solidified the doubles point against Ella Pachl and Sophie Pearson, 6-2. It was a quick win to kick off the day at flight two with Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt defeating Katelyn Vu and Anu Bhadada, 6-2. Doubles team Andreea Ciornei and Claire Le Du closed the deal in doubles play winning by tie-breaker point, 7-6 against Adriana Tabares and Shweta Kumar.
In singles competition, it was a fast win for top flight Nikola Homolkova beating Ella Pachl, 6-1, 6-2 giving Long Beach State the first singles point. The Beach continued their momentum with Peppi Ramstedt winning against Rachel Wagner, 6-1, 6-4 in the fourth flight. Zara Lennon gave the Beach another singles point due to retirement against Sophie Pearson. Freshman Sheena Masuda defeated Adriana Tabares 6-4, 6-4 in the third flight, while Claire Le Du gave the team another singles point, winning against Katelyn Vu in the fourth flight 6-1, 6-4. It was a close call in the last flight as Andreea Cironei captured the final point versus Anu Bhadada 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
The Beach travels to Hawaii next week to compete against Hawaii Pacific on Friday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex in Honolulu.
