Women’s Tennis Defeats Hawaii Pacific, 4-3

In a close match against the Sharks, Long Beach State continues their winning streak.
HONOLULU, HAWAII – Freshman Peppi Ramstedt clinched the win in a tight match against Hawai'I Pacific, the first of three matches this week in the team's trip to Hawaii as the Beach won 4-3, splitting the singles matches after winning the doubles point.
Long Beach State (4-3) won their third straight match to open up the weekend, holding off Hawaii Pacific (5-2) to pick up some momentum heading into an important Big West contest against Hawai'i.
"We showed a lot of fight today against a very tough Hawaii Pacific team," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm extremely proud of Peppi for clinching the win."
In doubles, Shenna Masuda and Zara Lennon fell in the top flight to Marleen Tilgner and Shaline Pipa 6-3, but bounced back quickly with a 6-4 win by Nikola Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt. Andreea Ciomei and Claire Le Du then sealed the doubles point victory by defeating Valentina Mokrova and Marta Ruszczynska 7-5.
Singles play featured exciting back and forth action. Pipa continued her strong play for the Sharks, winning the first singles match and evening the team score with a straight set win over Nikola Homolkova. Hawaii Pacific took the lead after winning at No. 4, but the Beach moved back in front with wins by Zara Lennon and Andreea Ciornei to make the score 3-2.
With both of the remaining matches moving to a third set, Hawaii Pacific pulled even one final time as Marleen Tilgner won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 against Sheena Masuda, but Ramstedt claimed her second win of the day, rallying from a first set defeat to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-1
The Beach is right back in action, facing Hawai'i tomorrow at 11 a.m. PT at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex.
