Long Beach State lost to No. 1 Oklahoma before rolling to a 10-2 win over Southern Utah.
In the first game, Long Beach State (3-8) became the first team in 12 games to record an earned run against No. 1 Oklahoma (12-0). The Sooners got off to a quick start, scoring five runs in the first inning and one more in the second, but Long Beach State bounced back with a big third inning.
After setting down the Sooners in order in the third, Ashleigh Inae reached base to kick off the bottom of the third inning, and then freshman Jacquelyn Bickar cracked a two-run home run to left field to get Long Beach State on the board. Fellow freshman Corissa Sweet kept the rally going with a double, and scored on a Sinclair Lawhorn single to center making the score 6-3 and cutting the Oklahoma lead in half.

A bases clearing triple from Alyssa Brito helped the Sooners push out to a lead again, and Oklahoma ultimately picked up the final run they needed to force the run-rule finish in the fifth inning for an 11-3 win.
The three runs and six hits in the first game were the most that Oklahoma had allowed in the season, and got the Beach bats warmed up in advance of the second game.
Long Beach State got rolling early in the second game as the whole order came to bat in the first. Sara Olson started off the game with a single, and after two walks loaded the bases, a third walk to Justine Briones brought home the opening run of the game. An RBI groundout scored one more, and back-to-back singles from Marissa Caballero and Ashleigh Inae.
Olson reached on an error to begin the second inning, and scored on a double from Naomi Hernandez to add one more run. A two-run single from Cam Cecil made the score 7-0 and the Beach was firmly in control.
Southern Utah (1-10) brought home two runs with one of their two hits, a two-run single from pinch hitter Gianna Carosone in the bottom of the third, but the Beach answered back with three more runs in the top of the fourth.
Shelby Frutoz finished off the final inning and two thirds to close out the game, striking out three with just one hit in support of Samantha Fowler, who picked up the win with eight strikeouts and one hit in her fourth start of the season.
Long Beach State is back in action with two more games from Cathedral City on Saturday. The Beach will face No. 24 BYU at 10 a.m. followed immediately by a game against Texas Tech. Live coverage for both games will be on FloSoftball with live stats at www.beachlivestats.com.
