The Beach fell 5-0 in their first action of the season.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 14 Long Beach State (0-1) fell in their season opener to No. 1 USC (1-0) at the LBSU Sand Courts on Thursday. The Beach lost 5-0 to the reigning national champion Trojans.

The second flight duo of Holland Jackson and Nicci Reinking got off to a great start to open up the day, taking the first set 22-20. It was one of just two sets the Beach won in Thursday's dual. Unfortunately, USC's Megan Kraft and Sammy Slater battled back to take the flight in three sets.

The other set win came from the fifth flight as Christine Deroos and Sophie Major battled to force a third set after taking the second 21-18. In the third, they went back and forth with USC's Carolin Schafer and Sunny Villapando but fell short, 13-15 to end the day.

The Beach are back in action on Saturday as they head to Irvine for duals with Irvine Valley College and No. 11 California.
