Long Beach State Hosts Cal State Fullerton, Travels to Hawai'i
After winning eight matches in a row, the Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team has its work cut out for them with a pair of tough matches this week. First the Beach host Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Walter Pyramid at 7 p.m. Later in the week, Long Beach State will travel to the islands to take on Hawaii on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. (HT) / 10 p.m. (PT).

• Long Beach State brings an eight-match winning streak into the week as they own an overall record of 14-6 and a Big West mark of 9-3.
• The Beach have not lost a match since a 3-1 loss to Hawaii on Saturday, Oct. 1.
• LBSU is currently tied for third in The Big West standings as the Beach sit just one game out of second and two games out of first.
• Long Beach is 8-1 when playing at the Walter Pyramid, with the Beach's only loss coming to Hawaii in four sets.
• As a team, the Beach are averaging 13.11 kills per set, while hitting .219 on the year. Additionally, the Beach are averaging 12.13 assists per set.
• Defensively, the Beach have racked up 14.36 digs per set and 2.08 blocks per set, to go along with 1.29 service aces per set on the season.

• In his first year at the helm, Tyler Hildebrand has revamped the Beach bringing in a whole new coaching staff featuring assistant coaches Cursty Le Roux and Kim Hill, while also adding volunteer assistant coach Jordan Molina to the mix.
Scouting Cal State Fullerton
• Cal State Fullerton comes to the Walter Pyramid with a 12-8 overall record and a 6-6 Big West mark.
• The Titans have won three out of their last four matches with victories over UC Davis (3-2), UC Riverside (3-2), and CSU Bakersfield (3-1).
• As a team, Fullerton is averaging 12.22 kills per set, while hitting .196 on the year. The Titans also average 10.73 assists per set.
• On the defensive end, CSUF is averaging 15.82 digs per set, 1.72 blocks per set, and 1.22 aces per set.
• Lyla Traylor is the Titans' leading scorer with 2.82 kills per set. She also adds 2.81 digs per set.
• Elizabeth Schuster is the team's setter as she has dished out 732 assists to average 9.38 assists per set. Additionally, she contributes 2.81 digs per set.
• Defensively, Nadia Koanui leads the Titans with 3.50 digs per set.
• At the net, Bianca Martinez has racked up 74 total blocks to average 0.96 blocks per set.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Titans
Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton will meet for the 106th time in program history and for the second time this season. Overall, the Beach lead the all-time series 97-7, however, the Titans edged the Beach in a five-set contest earlier this season. When playing each other in Long Beach, Calif., LBSU leads 49-3.
Scouting Hawai'i
• Hawaii comes into the week sitting at the top of The Big West standings as the Rainbow Wahine boast an overall record of 14-6 and a league record of 11-1.
• The Wahine's lone conference loss came on Oct. 15 at Cal Poly as the Mustangs defeated Hawaii in four sets.
• Since that loss, the Wahine have won four-straight matches.
• Hawaii has won 12 of their last 13 matches as they are hitting a Big West leading .253 to go along with 13.68 kills per set and 12.67 assists per set. Both of which figures lead the conference.
• On the defensive end, Hawaii is averaging 14.03 digs per set, 1.95 blocks per set, and 1.45 aces per set.
• Amber Igiede leads the Wahine with 3.63 kills per set, while hitting a conference-leading .428. She also adds a team-leading 1.23 blocks per set to go along with 0.91 digs per set and 15 service aces.
• The Wahine's setter is Kate Lang who's 10.17 assists per set are tops in The Big West. Lang also posts 2.04 digs per set and 0.48 kills per set on a .305 clip.
• In the backrow, Tayli Ikenaga leads the way with 3.19 digs per set.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Rainbow Wahine
Long Beach State and Hawaii will face off for the 60th time in program history and for the second time this season. In the all-time series, the Rainbow Wahine own a record of 39-19-1 over the Beach. Hawaii has also won the last 10 meetings as Long Beach State is looking for its first victory over Hawaii since 2016 and their first road win over UH since 2014. When playing the Wahine on the island, Long Beach trails in the series 23-6.
Beach Player Notes
• Redshirt freshman setter Zayna Meyer has been very efficient since making her collegiate debut. She has recorded a team-leading 11 double-doubles and has led the Beach in assists in every match this season. She has also led the squad in blocks on seven separate occasions. A four-time Big West Setter of the Week winner, Meyer is averaging 10.13 assists per set to rank second in The Big West. She also adds 2.48 digs per set, 0.86 kills per set, 0.80 blocks per set, and has notched 21 aces, all while hitting .315.
• Morgan Chacon, a redshirt junior outside hitter, is leading the Beach with 3.70 kills per set, a mark that is good for third in The Big West. Chacon recorded a career-high 26 kills against No. 19 Oregon and reached the mark again at UC Riverside. On the year, she has registered 20-plus kills in five matches this season and has recorded double-figure kills on 18 occasions. Chacon has notched a double-double in six matches this season.
• Jaylen Jordan had a career performance at UC San Diego as she tallied a career-high 22 kills and a career-best 13 digs for her first-career double-double. She has recorded seven double-figure kill performances on the year, two double-doubles, and has led the Beach in scoring twice. Jordan is averaging 2.38 kills per set on the year, to go along with 2.13 digs per set, and 0.34 blocks per set.
• Sophomore middle blocker Kameron Bacon has been solid this season on both sides of the ball as she averages 1.14 kills per set on a .200 attack percentage, while coming in second on the squad with 0.91 blocks per set. Last week, she tallied a career-high 12 kills on 18 errorless swings to hit a career-best .667 against CSU Bakersfield.
• Tia Chavira, one of LBSU's team captains, has been seeing more playing time as her solid leadership skills are an asset on the court. Additionally, she has come in to serve and has led the Beach on several scoring runs which have led to Long Beach State's eight-match winning streak.
• Savana Chacon, a sophomore defensive specialist, has been an asset to the Beach this season. She leads LBSU in service aces as she has racked up 34 to average 0.40 which ranks her in the top three in the conference. Chacon also averages 2.14 digs per set after having logged a career-high 18 digs against CSUN. She has accumulated six double-figure dig performances this season and has led the Beach in digs twice.
• Freshman middle blocker Rhiann Sheffie made her collegiate debut at UC Riverside last week. In the match, she saw action in two sets and finished with a pair of kills.
• Kailia Lopez has been a key component to Long Beach State this season. The sophomore has come off the bench in 18 matches this year, with one start. She is averaging 0.27 digs per set to go along with 0.06 assists per set, and 0.10 service aces per set.
• Nicole Hoff made her season debut on Thursday, Oct. 20 at UC Riverside. The defensive specialist came into the match and promptly logged eight digs to help the Beach to a 3-2 win over the Highlanders.
• Katie Kennedy, another of LBSU's team captains, has shown her versatility this season as the 6-foot-1 junior has seen action at both middle blocker and opposite. After pouring in a career-high 23 kills against CSUN, Kennedy matched her career-high the next weekend at UC San Diego. She has now recorded 12 double-figure scoring matches on the year and is averaging 2.65 kills per set on a .258 clip. She also adds 0.68 blocks per set.
• Senior libero Dylan Dela Cruz has certainly made the most of her senior year at Long Beach State. The local product logged a career-high 34 digs at UC San Diego becoming the first LBSU player to record at least 30 digs in a single-match since 2010. On the year, Dela Cruz has posted 19 double-digit dig showings, eight 20-plus dig performances, and two 30-plus dig matches. She is averaging 4.26 digs per set to rank second in The Big West.
• Victoria O'Sullivan has played in 36 sets for the Beach this season and has started in seven matches. She registered a season-high 15 kills off the bench at UC Riverside to bring her season average to 2.44 kills per set, while hitting .221.
• Sophomore defensive specialist Jenna Giambi has returned to the Beach and has done a solid job coming off the bench in six sets this season. She is averaging 0.67 digs per set thus far.
• Senior middle blocker Callie Schwarzenbach has been a force on both sides of the ball this season. Her 0.99 blocks per set leads the Beach and ranks in the top 10 in The Big West. Meanwhile, she leads the team with a .311 attack percentage to rank eighth in the league. At Cal State Fullerton, she racked up a career-high 17 kills, bringing her season average to 1.69 kills per set.
• Natalie Glenn is a sophomore outside hitter and is currently the Beach's second leading scorer with 2.46 kills per set. She contributes on both sides of the ball adding 2.14 digs per set and 0.46 blocks per set.
Closing in on 1,000
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon is closing in on a milestone 1,000 career kills. The Crown Point, Ind., native has logged 311 kills this season to bring her career total to 999 as she is just one kill shy of reaching that feat.
Home Sweet Home
The Beach have played exceptionally well this season at the Walter Pyramid as they own an 8-1 record when playing at home. Long Beach State's lone loss at the 'Mid came on October 1 to Hawaii in four sets. Since then, LBSU has won five-straight matches at home.
An Outstanding October
During the month of October, Long Beach State boasted an 8-1 record. After dropping their first match of the month, 3-1 to Hawaii, the Beach closed out the month on an 8-0 run. In the month of October, the Beach hit .240, while averaging 14.00 kills per set on 13.10 assists per set. On the defensive end, LBSU logged 15.10 digs per set, 1.83 blocks per set, and 1.15 aces per set.
Next Up
Following the trip to Hawaii, Long Beach State continues its road swing back in southern California against CSUN and UC Santa Barbara.
