The Beach Sweeps Cal State Fullerton, Morgan Chacon Records 1,000th Career Kill

LONG BEACH, Calif. –
It was a historic night for Long Beach State redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon as she knocked down her 1,000th career kill to lead the Beach to their ninth-straight victory in a 3-0 [25-19, 25-16, 25-21] sweep of Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday night at the Walter Pyramid.

The Beach improve to 15-6 overall and 10-3 in The Big West, while the Titans drop to 12-9 on the year and 6-7 in league action.

Chacon came into the match with 999 career kills and collected her 1,000th in the first set to put Long Beach State up 15-12 over Cal State Fullerton at the media timeout. The Crown Point, Ind., native would go on to finish the match with 11 kills on a team-leading .429 attack percentage (11-1-23), while adding nine digs, two assists, one block, and one ace.
 

Leading the offensive charge for the Beach was sophomore outside hitter Natalie Glenn who earned the start and promptly tallied a career-high 14 kills on a .312 attack percentage (14-4-32). Glenn went on to add nine digs, two blocks, two aces, and an assist.

Also recording double-figures was junior opposite Katie Kennedy who logged 11 kills on a .364 hitting percentage (11-3-22).

Redshirt freshman setter Zayna Meyer spread the ball around to her hitters evenly and concluded the match with 40 assists, five digs, three kills, and one block.

Long Beach State's defense was solid as the Beach held the Titans to a mere .081 attack percentage on the night. LBSU led the way with 50 digs to Fullerton's 38 as senior libero Dylan Dela Cruz paced the backrow with 18 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Kameron Bacon patrolled the net with five blocks to lead the blocking defense.

The Beach wasted no time getting going as they started the match with a 4-0 lead. Long Beach State led the entire first set as they hit .483 with a 70% sideout percentage. After Chacon's signature kill extended the Beach's lead to three (15-12), LBSU continued to surge ahead and eventually claimed the first set, 25-19.

The second set saw the Beach take another early lead (4-1), before Cal State Fullerton managed to tie things up at 5-all. Despite the Titans' efforts, Long Beach State never trailed in the frame as the Beach used a 4-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. LBSU opened up a nine-point lead (21-12) as they forced three-consecutive Fullerton attach errors. The Beach went on to hit .310 in the game with a 75% sideout percentage en route to winning, 25-16.
 

Cal State Fullerton came out of the locker room at the break and quickly jumped out in front 4-0. However, Long Beach State would chip away and even the score at 7-all, before a Glenn ace would cap a 3-0 LBSU run and give the Beach an 8-7 edge. From there, Long Beach State held a slight advantage, but the Titans stayed within striking distance. Cal State Fullerton knocked down three-straight points to tie the game at 21-21, forcing a Long Beach State timeout. That was just what the Beach needed as they came out of the break and closed the set and match on a 4-0 run to win 25-21.

Cal State Fullerton's setter Elizabeth Schuster led the way for the Titans with a double-double (21 assists, 11 digs), while Danielle Jefferies and Lolo Fonua each added six kills. Nadia Koanui logged 10 digs, while Kyahana Robinson and Bianca Martinez each posted three blocks.

Long Beach State will take its nine-match winning streak on the road as the Beach travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to face the Rainbow Wahine, who sit at the top of The Big West standings, on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. (HT) / 10 p.m. (PT). The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
