Women’s Golf Breaks Round Record For Second Straight Day To Close Fall Season

The Beach broke the previous best round of 282 by three strokes, set yesterday.
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – For the second day running, Long Beach State Women's Golf set a new program record with a single round score of 279, 9-under par as the Beach finished as the team runners up at The Clash at Boulder Creek.
Long Beach State had four golfers finish in the Top 20 and all five were in the top 30 among the 100 golfers that started the event.
Janae Leovao had a bogey-free round on Tuesday with four birdies to finish 4-under par on the day and -6 for the tournament, tied for third place overall in the 17-team event. Hannah Ko was 3-under on the day to finish under par for the tournament as well at -1, 11th overall, while Jasmine Leovao shot an even par 72 to tie for 13th, one stroke behind Ko in the tournament.
Angelina Kim had a strong finish to her tournament with six birdies to fire a two-under 70 on Tuesday, climbing to 27th overall. Highlighting the team's strong play, Kristina Ponomareva's one-over par 73 on Tuesday was the team's non-counting score as the sophomore finished in a tie for 20th overall, +1 for the tournament at 217.
Against their Big West competition at the event, The Beach finished six strokes in front of third place Cal State Fullerton, 29 strokes in front of UC Irvine and 23 strokes ahead of UC Riverside. Nevada had individual golfers place first, second and tied for third with Leovao to hold off the streaking Beach for the team title.
Over the course of all three rounds, the Beach finished one stroke away from the team tournament record, set in 2015 at the same course, Boulder Creek Country club, where Long Beach State shot 854 over three rounds at the Las Vegas Showdown.
Long Beach State will have a break in competition through the winter, and will resume action at home as Long Beach State hosts The Beach Invitational on February 27 and 28 at the Mission Viejo Country Club.
