A record breaking run has earned Michael Phillips the Big West Men’s Athlete of the Week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Michael Phillips has been named the Big West Cross Country Men's Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record in the men's 8K this past weekend. This is his third weekly honor since he transferred to the Beach last year.
At the Bronco Invitational this past Saturday, Phillips ran a 23:32.5 in the men's 8K setting a new school record. His time beat the previous record set by Heath Reedy in 2011 by almost a full 15 seconds. Personally, it was also 30 seconds faster than his previous lifetime-best.
He finished second overall in the event, but was first among all collegiate competitors. He also cross the line five seconds faster than the next Division I runner.
