LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a slow start, the Long Beach State Women's Basketball team put up a fight in the second half, but the Beach's rally against UC Davis was cut short as LBSU dropped a 68-58 decision on Saturday at the Walter Pyramid.

LBSU (13-3, 6-2 Big West) started out slow as UC Davis (9-7 (3-3 Big West) jumped out in front early and held a 35-17 lead over the Beach by halftime.

The Beach bounced back in the second half and used an 11-0 run to close the gap (42-34) with 3:56 remaining in the third quarter. However, the Aggies extended their lead one again over LBSU as the Beach trailed 53-34 at the end of the frame.

Long Beach State chipped away at the Aggies' lead during the fourth quarter making it a one-possession game (59-53) after a Jasmine Hardy three at 3:25. Justina King scored a season-high 21 points for the Beach as LBSU made it a five-point game (61-56) with 2:08 left on the clock. Despite Long Beach's efforts, UC Davis took the win, as the Beach fell, 68-58.

King led all scorers with her 10th-20 point game of her career. She also added three assists, three steals, and two rebounds.

Maddi Utti was one rebound shy of a double-double as she finished the game with 19 points and none boards, while adding four steals, three assists, and two blocks.

Hardy also recorded double figures as she concluded the contest with 14 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

Long Beach State will hit the road next week as the Beach travel to CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, Feb. 3 for a 7 p.m., game. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+.
