Washington Sets Indoor Triple Jump School Record

The senior now owns the Triple Jump school record in both indoor and outdoor.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Long Beach State track and field team wrapped up action at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday led by Crystal Washington who set the indoor triple jump school record. Overall, the Beach had four individual victories on the day.

Washington launched herself 12.22m (40'1.25") beating the previous Long Beach State record by almost three inches set by Miia Mobley back in 2010. He picked up the victory by almost two feet over second place. The senior now owns the school record for Triple Jump in both indoor and outdoor.
Long Beach State's first win of the day came in the women's mile where Ryley Fick showed why she was the favorite to come out on top. Running a 5:13.64, she beat second place by four seconds just missing out on a time in the LBSU all-time top ten.
The Beach also got wins in both men's and women's 800m Run today. For the men, Alex Kalmar came out with the victory posting a time of 1:55.80 in his collegiate indoor debut. Anitha Graves picked up the win on the women's side with a time of 2:16.95.
Fick (2:22.50) along with Brieanna Tafoya (2:22.58) and Bronwyn Bunnell (2:30.24) finished second, third, and fourth behind Graves in the 800m women's final.
After throwing the sixth best Weight Throw in program history yesterday, Malia Talavou came back today and posted the second best Shot Put mark in Long Beach State history. With a distance of 14.70m (48'2.75"), she finished fifth for the event.
In the women's jump events, the Beach scored 12.5 points combined. In High Jump, the duo of Calista Apostol (5'7") and Clare Gibson (5'5") finished fourth and fifth overall.
Over on the track, Rahni Turner finished fourth overall in the women's 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.86 while LeNaya Griffin came out sixth in the women's 200m, posting a time 25.29.
After a top eight in Long Jump yesterday, Elijah Harris repeated it in Triple Jump today. Harris went 13.73m (45'0.5") to finish second in the event. Also scoring points was Michael Hull, who finished in sixth with a mark of 13.08m (42'11").
In the finals of the men's 400m, Austin Brown posted a time 48.39 to finish third overall and score six points for the Beach. That mark sets a new personal best for the sophomore, which he had just set the day before.
The last field event of the day was men's Shot Put where Sebastian Coleman scored points for the Beach. His throw of 15.38m (50'5.5") was good for seventh overall and a new personal best for the junior.
The meet closed out with the men's and women's mile relays races. The foursome of Natalie Tolento, LeNaya Griffin, Anitha Graves, and Rahni Turner came out fourth with a time of 4:06.51. The men's relay team, made up of Kash Powell, Justin Watterson, Austin Brown, and Mohamed Mohammed finished fifth at 3:22.13.
Overall, both the women's and men's team took home third place for the meet totaling 88.5 and 67 points, respectively. Colorado State claimed the women's title while host Air Force won the men's side.
Long Beach State is back in action next weekend in Seattle, Wash. as they compete in the UW
