
Anderson Wins 60m Hurdle in LBSU Debut

Joseph Anderson won the 60m Hurdles while Charlie Vernoy finished second in the Weight Throw.
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Long Beach State track and field team competed in the University of Washington Invitational on Friday afternoon. Junior transfer Joseph Anderson and senior Charlie Vernoy were the lone Beach representatives in Seattle, Wash. with Anderson competing in the 60m Hurdles and Vernoy competing in the 35-pound Weight Throw.
Anderson was the first of the Long Beach State duo to compete, making his Long Beach State debut. In the preliminary round, the Rancho Cucamonga native ran the ninth fastest time in program at 8.24 to qualify for the finals with the third fastest mark of the day.
In the final, Anderson improved on his top ten mark by almost two tenths of a second finishing in a blistering 8.05 seconds. The time was fast enough to not only win the event, but also put him at third on the LBSU all-time indoor list.
Vernoy closed out the day with another fantastic performance in the 35-pound Weight Throw. After posting the second best mark in program history on opening weekend, the senior launched a throw of 20.11m (65'11.75") finishing second in the event.
Long Beach State resumes their indoor season next weekend with a trip to Albuquerque, N.M. for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
