Maddi Utti scores a double-double, while Ma’Qhi Berry and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher record double-figures

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Maddi Utti recorded a double-double, while Ma'Qhi Berry and Kianna Hamilton-Fisher tallied double-figures to lead Long Beach State to a 62-44 victory over San Diego on Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid.
Long Beach State (11-2, 4-1 Big West) dominated UC San Diego (6-8, 3-2 Big West) as the Beach led by as many as 20 points in the game and outscored the Tritons 24-0 on points off of turnovers.
The Beach got things going late in the first quarter as they closed the frame on five-straight points, all from Justina King, to send the Beach into the second quarter tied, 14-14, with the Tritons. Long Beach State continued their run as they kicked off the frame on a 9-0 run to take a 23-14 advantage. That run in the second quarter broke the game open for the Beach as they led the rest of the way and took a 33-23 lead into halftime.
Long Beach State continued its solid offensive showing and continued to get defensive stops in the second half as the Beach jumped out to a 28-14 lead after starting the frame on a 5-0 run. The Beach pushed their lead up to 15 (38-23), but the Tritons rattled off six-straight points to make is a nine point contest (38-29). Despite UCSD's efforts, Long Beach State went back up by 14 (47-33) to close the third quarter.
The Beach continued adding to their lead in the fourth quarter and utilized several reserves as Long Beach State's bench tallied 25 points in the game. Hamilton-Fisher finished the game with 10 points, while Savannah Tucker added eight off the bench. LBSU led by as many as 20 (62-42) with just 1:11 remaining after tallying eight-straight points. Long Beach State cruised to a 62-44 victory to win their fourth league game.
Utti led Long Beach State with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while adding three assists, three steals, and two blocks. Berry logged 11 points, three boards, two steals, one assist, and one block, while Hamilton-Fisher collected 10 points, two blocks, one rebound, and one assist. King distributed seven assists in another solid passing game. She also finished with eight points and four steals.
UC San Diego's Emily Cangelosi led all scorers with 14 points, while adding eight rebounds. Parker Montgomery concluded the game with a 10-point performance for the Tritons.
Long Beach State will take on UC Irvine at the Bren Events Center on Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. in the Black and Blue Rivalry. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
