
LBSU Set to Open 2022 Indoor Season at Air Force Invitational

The Beach track and field team is traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. to compete in their first meet of the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State track and field team is set to begin their indoor season this weekend as they travel to Colorado for the Air Force Invitational. The meet will take place all day Friday and Saturday.

Friday's field events begins at 11:00 a.m. with the 20-pound weight throw while the track events start with the 60m Hurdles at 12:00 p.m. The action resumes on Saturday with Shot Put at 11:00 a.m. PT on the field side and the Mile Run kicks off the track events at 12:00 p.m. PT.
Among the teams competing with Long Beach State are BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Weber State, Western Colorado, MSU Denver, host Air Force, and Big West foe Hawai'i.
Long Beach State has not competed in any indoor events since the 2020 season ended prematurely due to COVID-19 prior to the NCAA Championships where fifth-year senior Jason Smith was named a double All-American in both Long Jump and High Jump.
Among other notable returners are Michael Hull, who is second all-time on LBSU's all-time top ten for the men's 60m Dash, and Lenaya Griffin, who is third all-time in the women's 400m Dash. Anitha Graves (sixth, 800m Run), Charlie Vernoy (eighth, men's weight throw), Ryley Fick (ninth, women's mile), and Raymon Ornelas (tenth, men's mile) all also own top ten marks in the program's history and are returning to the Beach for the 2022 season.

Fans are welcome to attend, but are required to wear a mask inside all Air Force Academy facilities. Admission is free on Friday and costs $10 on Saturday.
