No. 6 Long Beach State Heads North For MPSF Tournament

Long Beach State starts week against No. 3 Stanford on Wednesday.

Long Beach, Calif. — The Long Beach State men's water polo team heads to northern California for a week of contests against some of the Top 25 teams in the country.

The No. 6 ranked Beach (8-1) start the week on Wednesday when they take on the No.3-ranked Cardinal.

LBSU won't be done there as they compete in the MPSF Tournament this weekend that will feature 14 of the top 20 ranked teams in the country.

Among the participants are No. 1(T) UCLA, No. 1(T) USC, No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 Cal, No. 5 UC Santa Barbara, No. 7 Pacific, No. 8 UC Davis, No. 9 UC San Diego, No. 11 San Jose State, No. 13 UC Irvine, No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 17 Loyola Marymount.

The Beach will open tournament play on Friday against San Jose State.

Long Beach State is off to its best start since 2005 with a 8-1 record.

HOT START 
The Beach started the season 8-1 — the best start for the team since 2005.
 
PATIENTLY WAITING  
The Beach hasn't competed since the 2019 season and is ready to get back in the pool after not competing during the 2020 season.  
  
INTERNATIONAL TIES  
The Beach had four athletes compete at this year's FINA Men's Junior Water Polo Championships in Prague. Liam Ward, Zach Frazier and Evan Cain competed for the USA, while Abdelrahman Soliman competed with Egypt.   
  
OLYMPIC COMPETITION  
Coach Gavin Arroyo represented the United States at the Tokyo Games as an assistant coach for the national men's water polo team.
