Fleming brings coaching experience as well as Division I playing experience to the Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State head women's tennis coach Jenny Hilt-Costello announced the hiring of Terri Fleming as the Beach's assistant coach.
"Terri comes to us having had a successful collegiate career moving up the lineup each season," said Hilt-Costello. "She has a wealth of knowledge and an enthusiasm for our tennis program. We are excited to welcome her to Beach Tennis as we return to play this season and defend our 2019 Big West Championship."
Fleming comes to the Beach after having worked at the Los Angeles Tennis Club as a private instructor for students and adults. Her organizational skills of creating lesson plans coupled with her high tennis IQ will be an asset to Long Beach State as she begins working with the student-athletes on technique, strategies, and fundamentals, while cultivating and building relationships within the program and LBSU athletics department.
In addition to her coaching experience, Fleming brings high-level playing experience after having played collegiately at UCLA where she was a 2018 All-American, All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, and 2017 Pac-12 Doubles Team of the Year.
Off the court, Fleming has served as a member of Student-Athlete Mentors from 2015-18, where she mentored and educated college students about mental health issues, and helped destigmatize the perception of mental illness among athletes. She also was a member of the Bruin Athletic Council from 2016-18, in which she organized and participated in community service and leadership activities for teams, coaches, and student-athletes.
A 2018 graduate of UCLA with a degree in political science, Fleming knows the importance of balancing being a student and an athlete as she was a UCLA Director's Honor Roll member, a Pac-12 All-Academic Team selection, as well as the 2018 student-athlete graduation speaker.
Following her time at UCLA, Fleming worked as Junior Varsity head coach and Varsity assistant coach at Archer School for Girls before working as a program manager and operations/grant manager at Team Prime Time.
