Caveness comes to the Beach following a seven-year stint as the head coach of St. Anthony High School in Long Beach, leading the Saints to their most success in school history.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Basketball Head Coach Dan Monson has announced the Allen Caveness has been hired to join the coaching staff of the Beach as the program's latest Assistant Coach.
Caveness is no stranger to Long Beach basketball, coaching at St. Anthony High School for the last seven years. During that period, Caveness has led the Saints to their greatest success in recent history, winning three straight Camino Real league championships from 2016-18.
He then finished lifting the program all the way to the Open Division in 2020, winning the Del Rey League Championship in the process. Additionally, this move will reunite Caveness with one of the stars of that team in standout freshman Jadon Jones, who played in every game for the Beach last season, averaging 8.4 points per game.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Caveness to the Beach," said Long Beach State head coach Dan Monson. "He checks all the boxes we were looking for to complement the rest of our staff. He is a proven winner with a wealth of coaching experience and is very connected in our local basketball community. We are thrilled that he will become part of our basketball family."
Prior to coaching at St. Anthony, Caveness spent two seasons at the Division II level with Cal State Dominguez Hills, and got his start professionally at the junor college level as the head coach in stints at El Camino College, Fullerton College and Mt. San Antonio College.
Since 2007 Caveness has served as a coach and board member with the Drew League. Caveness was a Division I Student-Athlete, earning All-WCC honors at Saint Mary's in the early 90s.
Caveness replaces the legendary Bobby Braswell, who retired in June following a 40-year coaching career.
