The teams will square off again tomorrow at El Dorado Park.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. – Angelina Kim had the low round of the day as Long Beach State also was the low team after the first day of the Black and Blue Challenge on Wednesday.

Playing a format of 6 count 5 over two days this year in the rivalry matchup, Long Beach State was led Wednesday by their true freshman who fired a two-under par 70 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club as UC Irvine hosted the first day. Kim was one stroke in front of UC Irvine's Cameron Lee and Sienna Lyford, who both shot a 71.

Senior Holland Shourds finished with an even-par 72, while Hunter Pate, Chloe Callaway and Khameryn Utu finished the round with a three-over par 75.

With Maddie Riggs scratched late, all five golfers for UC Irvine were included in the scores, and both Coco Yang and Angela Bagasbas carded scores of 80 which was tied for the highest round of the day.  That helped Long Beach State take a 367 to 374 lead after the opening round of play with the more consistent scores.

The teams will transition to Long Beach for the second round, which will tee off in the afternoon at El Dorado Park Golf Course.
