Haddad, Gonzalez share the honors for the Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a perfect 3-0 weekend, Long Beach State softball picked up all three weekly awards presented by the Big West Conference winning Big West Player, Pitcher and Freshman of the Week.
Shannon Haddad was named the conference Pitcher of the Week for the second week running, and also added Freshman of the Week this week after a dominant weekend on the road at CSUN.
In two starts, Haddad gave up just three hits and posted a 2-0 record with a 0.00 ERA, pitching four innings in the opener against the Matadors before tossing 5.0 innings in game three, striking out a career-high tying 11.
In her two outings, Haddad finished with 20 strikeouts in 9.0 innings, averaging over two strikeouts per inning on the way to claiming more weekly honors.
On the offensive side, junior Alyssa Gonzalez was named the Player of the Week after leading the Long Beach State lineup on the weekend. Gonzalez hit .583 with six RBI and four runs scored, going 7-for-12 overall with a pair of three-hit games.
In the 6-3 win to close the series, Gonzalez had three hits, including a critical three-run home run to help stake the Beach to an early lead.
Haddad has now twice one Pitcher of the Week honors, joining Kellie White who has claimed the honor once this season. The Beach also took Player of the Week honors for a second week running, as Suzy Brookshire earned the honor last week.
