The Beach Downs UC Davis To Advance To Big West Semifinals

Sarah Barker scored a hat trick to lead the Beach to the 9-7 victory.
San Diego, Calif. — After an eight-hour postponement, the No. 5-seed Long Beach State women's water polo team defeated UC Davis, 9-7 Friday night at Canyonview Aquatic Center to advance to the Big West Tournament semifinals.
The Beach will take on No.1-seed Hawai'i on Saturday at 1 p.m.

After the Aggies (11-8) equalized, Sarah Barker scored her first of three goals at the 4:48-mark of the first quarter to give the Beach a 2-1 lead.
Mariah Walker got in on the action during a power play and scored her first goal to give LBSU a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Walker scored her second goal to open the second quarter as the Beach took a 4-1 lead.
Barker's second goal capped a 3-0 run for the Beach as Long Beach State took a 5-1 lead over the Aggies.
The Aggies fought back with their own 2-0 run to cut the lead to 5-3.
Elena Kotanchyan scored her first goal of the match to give LBSU a 6-3 lead at halftime.

Kotanchyan's second goal put the Beach up 7-4 with 6:45 left in the third period.
The Aggies then went on a 2-0 run to cut the Beach's lead to 7-6 heading into the final period.
That was the closest UCD got to tying the game as back-to-back goals from Barker and Anne de Kleer extended the Beach's lead to 9-6.
The Beach's match against UCD was postponed for eight hours on Friday due to Covid-19 protocols within the Aggies' program.
