Big Day For Wise Lifts Long Beach State To 4-2 Win Over Cal Poly

The senior had a hand in all four runs as the Beach won its sixth conference series.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's defense turned four double plays and senior Breezy Wise had a hand in all four runs as the Beach dropped Cal Poly 4-2 to close out another series victory.
Long Beach State (22-6, 16-2 Big West) went down in order in the first inning, but got a spark as Suzy Brookshire doubled to start the second inning. Wise followed with an RBI single, and would later come home to score on a wild pitch in that inning to give the Beach a 2-0 lead.
Cal Poly (10-16, 4-11 Big West) would chip away at the lead. A leadoff walk in the third inning resulted in a run as the Mustangs were able to push around Kai Barrett making the score 2-1. The Mustangs would then tie the game in the fifth, again utilizing a leadoff walk to help plate a run.
With the top of the order up in the top of the sixth, Naomi Hernandez started the inning with a single, and Alyssa Gonzalez also reached with a hit to extend her hitting streak to 15 games. A fielder's choice left two on with two out as Wise came to the plate and tripled to right center, scoring two and putting the Beach back on top.
Kellie White set down the Mustangs in order in the sixth with a pair of strikeouts, and the defense turned a fourth double-play behind her in the seventh before a final strikeout closed her 11th win of the campaign.

Long Beach State has now won all six of its conference series, but will face a road test this weekend, playing four games at Hawai'i starting on Friday, April 30.
