Dirtbags Resume League Play Hosting Preseason Favorite UC Santa Barbara

Long Beach State returns to their Big West schedule hosting the second-place Gauchos.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State returns home this weekend as they are set to host the preseason favorite Gauchos from UC Santa Barbara. The four-game set begins Friday at 6:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Dirtbags played their first and only non-conference series last weekend adding a three-game set against Pacific in Stockton.
• Friday was a pitchers' dual with LBSU taking the victory, 3-2.
• Game two started off right for the Dirtbags leading 11-3 in the sixth, but would give up 9 runs and ultimately losing 17-12.
• The series finale turned out to be a historic won as the Dirtbags won 28-10. The 28 runs marks the second-most for a single-game in program history.
ABOUT THE DIRTBAGS
• The Dirtbags were picked to finish second in the Big West Conference pre-season coaches' poll behind conference favorite UC Santa Barbara.
• After an original schedule release of conference-only games, Long Beach State will get some non-conference action this week playing a three-game series at Pacific.
• Long Beach State currently sits at 10-9 on the season. Their 8-8 record in conference play has them at fifth place in the standings.
• After a very offensive weekend at Pacific, the Dirtbags now rank third in the conference in slugging percentage, fourth in on-base percentage, and fifth in average. They're 20 home runs is fourth most despite playing at least nine less games than the other teams in the conference.
• On the mound, the pitching staff still ranks fourth in ERA in the conference despite allowing 29 runs this past weekend. Their .241 average against ranks second.
HISTORICAL GAME IN STOCKTON
• The Dirtbags had a very offensive weekend against Pacific, especially in the series finale on Sunday. To close out the weekend, the team put up 28 runs which is the second-most for a single-game in program history. It is the most since the record was set in 1998.
• LBSU launched five home runs in the 28-10 win, tied for sixth most in a single-game in program history and most since February 26, 2000.
• The duo of Jonathon Long and Javier Rosales both hit a pair of home runs, including back-to-back bombs in the third inning. They are the first pair of Dirtbags to go back-to-back since May 5, 2015.
• For the weekend, LBSU scored 43 runs total. It is the most runs scored in a weekend series since the team put up 45 against CSUN back in 2004.
SCOUTING THE GAUCHOS
• UC Santa Barbara enters the weekend with a 24-10 record and sits in second place in the conference at 15-5. They are also just outside the top 25 in the national rankings.
• The Gauchos are coming off a series win against UC San Diego taking three of four in La Jolla. UCSB totaled 50 runs including a pair of mercy-rule victories over the Tritons.
• UCSB is ranked top three in the conference in just about every offensive category and are slashing .297/.388/.462 as a team with a conference leading 34 home runs and 259 runs scored. Individually, they have the top two hitters with Zach Rodriguez hitting .413 and Jordan Sprinkle at a .410 clip. Rodriguez also leads the Big West in RBI and ranks second in slugging percentage.
• The Gaucho pitching staff also ranks top three in just about every category, including a league-leading .234 opponents' average and 353 strikeouts in 300.1 innings. The duo of Rodney Boone (2.10) and Michael McGreevy (2.70) both sit in the top ten in the conference ERA leaders. They also rank in the top five in strikeouts at 60 and 63, respectively.
• The Dirtbags lead the all-time series 100-86, but the Gauchos have won the last four matchups after sweeping LBSU in Santa Barbara back in 2019.
