For the 24th consecutive year, women’s cross country has been named an USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's women's cross country team has been named an USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team for the 2020-21 school year. In an academic year like no other, the team had a cumulative 3.341 team GPA.
"A big congratulations to our women cross country athletes for showing determination and the ability to overcome adversities during these challenging times," said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, Andy Sythe. "Success in the classroom is a hallmark of this program and it is important to also recognize our academic support staff, Breanna Lien and Tianna Ware, and administration who give so much to see our athletes receive the support they need to be successful, both on and off the cross country course."
Sythe continued, "I'd also like to extend a special congratulations to our Cross Country coach, Shawn Winget, who is five for five on his teams earning this award since he arrived on our campus in Fall 2016."
This marks the 24th consecutive year, Women's Cross Country has earned All-Academic Team honors and the only Big West institution to receive the award in every year since its inception back in 1997. In fact, they are one of a small handful of teams in the entire nation that have received the honor in every year.
This year saw five Big West schools total being named National All-Academic Teams, but none have received it as many times as the Beach.
