Long Beach State enters the tournament seeded fourth.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will try to claim a fourth Big West Conference championship this coming week, traveling to Yorba Linda Country Club starting on Monday to participate in the Big West Championship.
Hosted by Cal State Fullerton, the tournament in 2021 will feature nine programs, with Cal Poly coming in as the top seed in an abbreviated season just in front of UC Davis, Hawai'i and Long Beach State. The tournament will be played over three days with one round each day starting on Monday, April 19. The Beach also has a passing familiarity with the course, having hosted the first three editions of The Gold Rush at Yorba Linda Country Club
With the 2020 championships canceled due to COVID-19, Long Beach State enters the championship as the two-time defending champs, having won the tournament in 2019 and 2018. LBSU also had the individual medalists in those tournaments, as Haley Tygret was the 2019 champion after Jennifer Yu won the 2018 championships.
Senior Holland Shourds played a part in both of those championships, and will lead the LBSU lineup after a Top 5 finish at the Fresno State Classic. She'll be followed by promising freshman Angelina Kim, who had the low score in the first day of the Black and Blue Challenge and also played well in Fresno with a Top 10 finish.
Sophomore Hunter Pate had the team's low score at the Bruin Wave Invitational and will play third for the Beach, while the lineup is rounded out by Chloe Carraway and Vanessa Richani.
Live scoring throughout the tournament will be provided through Golfstat at http://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=21614.
