Beach Softball Continues Strong League Start With Two More Shutout Wins

Suzy Brookshire hit a home run in both games, including a grand slam in game one.
Long Beach State (14-5, 10-1 Big West) dominated the early contest, rolling to a 12-0 win over five innings as Haddad allowed just one UC San Diego (7-10, 4-4 Big West) hit over the five frames.
The Beach wasted no time getting going in the first game. A single from Alyssa Gonzalez and an error put two runners on in front of Breezy Wise, who doubled to score a pair, and Emily Salazar followed with a triple as LBSU took a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Again capitalizing on UCSD errors, The Beach piled on five more runs in the second inning as the team batted around with singles from Naomi Hernandez, Kyra Snyder, Suzy Brookshire and Ashley Machado, taking an 8-0 lead.
The Beach added more cushion with a huge inning from the top of the order in the third. Hernandez, Rylie Seip as a pinch hitter and Gonzalez all singled to load the bases, and Suzy Brookshire cleared them with her sixth home run of the year and the first grand slam of the season for LBSU.

Isabel Lavrov broke up Shannon Haddad's no-hit bid with a single in the fourth inning, but the freshman was again in complete command, extending her scoreless innings streak to 30 innings in the shutout, her fourth of the season while improving to 7-0.
Kellie White showcased similar command of the circle in the second game, finishing with seven strikeouts and just one walk over a complete game shutout while allowing three hits in 7.0 innings.

Brookshire's seventh home run of the season, a solo shot in the second inning, would be enough damage for White, but the Beach added two more in the third.
With the bases loaded, UCSD starter Robyn Wampler plunked Brookshire to bring home a run, and then Salazar extended her hitting streak to ten-games with an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
Long Beach State returns to the LBSU Softball Complex for two more games against the Tritons tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. The first game will count towards the Big West standings, while game two will be played as a non-conference competition. Both games will be streamed live via Beach Vision.
