UC Davis Holds On As Beach Comeback Falls Just Short

The Aggies pick up one win in the series, holding on 3-2.
DAVIS, Calif. – Long Beach State mounted a rally to complete a series sweep of UC Davis, but ultimately left a season-high 12 runners on base and fell 3-2 to the Aggies on Sunday.
UC Davis (7-18, 1-5 Big West) struck quickly in the bottom of the first inning. After a leadoff walk and a stolen base, two singles brought home a run and kept the pressure on with two on and no outs. Kellie White was able to exit the inning with just one additional run allowed, but the Aggies had picked up a lead that Long Beach State (9-5, 5-1 Big West) was ultimately unable to overcome.
The Aggies added a third run in the third after putting the leadoff batter on again, this time courtesy of an LBSU error. Freshman Shannon Haddad entered in the fourth inning and held the Aggies scoreless over her three innings of work, but the Beach ultimately couldn't overtake UC Davis.
Long Beach State gave the rally their best however, piling up seven hits over the final three innings. In the fifth, the Beach got on the board as Naomi Hernandez, Kyra Snyder and Alyssa Gonzalez picked up three singles to load the bases with one out. After an RBI groundout from Suzy Brookshire, the Aggies were able to get out of the inning and worked out of trouble in the sixth.
In the seventh, Sndyer and Gonzalez singled and a UC Davis error allowed Snyder to score while leaving two on and no out. Kenedi Brown picked up a critical strikeout of Ashley Machado for the first out, and while a Cam Cecil single loaded the bases, a groundout and a strikeout ended the threat for the Beach and the Aggies hung on for the win.
The Beach will remain on the road for another conference series next weekend, heading to CSUN for three games. The series will start with a single game Friday before concluding with a doubleheader on Saturday.
