No. 18 Beach Defeats Boise State, Utah on Friday

No. 18 ranked LBSU snapped their five-match losing streak defeating Boise State, 4-1, and sweeping Utah, 5-0, on Friday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 18 ranked Long Beach State (4-6) went 2-0 on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Boise State and a 5-0 sweep of Utah. The wins snapped a five-match losing streak for the Beach.
The Beach were quick to secure both of their duals taking the first three points against both, Boise State and Utah.
Against BSU, Katie Kennedy and Nicci Reinking set the tone with a straight set win, followed by a three-set victory for Skyler Germann and Alice Pratesi. German and Pratessi are now 7-2 on the season, best mark on the team.
Emily Mattoon and Jillian Rodriguez secured the victory against the Broncos with a straight set win.
The Beach had a perfect sweep against the Utes, not dropping a single set.
Sophie Major and Claire Newlander were given the start and dominated their Utah opponent, 21-11, 21-7, for the first point. Leah Black and Hanna Farnsworth also got their first start in the fifth flight. After a tough battle in the first set, the duo dominated the second set for the second point.
Long Beach State cruised from there with straight set victories claiming their second sweep victory of the season.
The Beach is in for a busy week next week with a tri-dual at Concordia on Tuesday before heading up to San Luis Obispo, Calif. for the Big West Challenge.
