Beach Women’s Golf Finishes First Tournament Of 2021

Senior Holland Shourds finished in 22nd place overall, tied as the top Big West finisher in the event.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – A shorthanded Long Beach State women's golf team finished off its first tournament in nearly a full year, placing 10th overall at the Lamkin Invitational hosted by San Diego State.
"The results of this event aren't as important as the ability to play and compete once more. It's really what we've all been missing the most," said head coach Joey Cerulle. "We are grateful for the opportunity give to us by our administration. Now that we have assessed where we are, we can start planning on how to be better everyday. We look forward to turning the page and putting in the work that will end up defining us."
Senior Holland Shourds was the top finisher for Long Beach State, closing out her second round with a three-over par 75 before Tuesday's final round, ultimately tying for 22nd overall in the 60-player field. In that spot, she was tied with UC Irvine's Sienna Lyford as the top Big West finisher in the event.
Hunter Pate tied for 38th overall, while true freshman Angelina Kim placed third on the squad in her collegiate debut, tied for 47th overall while freshman Vanessa Richani rounded out the scorers for Long Beach State. Khameryn Utu was held out of competition for the second day as well due to medical precautions.
Long Beach State will take a week off and then play host to The Gold Rush for the ninth time, returning to one of the team's home golf courses at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. That invitational will be held on February 22 and 23.
