Play was suspended due to darkness in the second round.

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – The sun set on Long Beach State's first day of competition as play was suspended in the second round of the Lamkin Invitational on Monday. The Beach will conclude the second round and play the final round on Tuesday.

The Beach was making their season debut on Monday at the The Farms Golf Club, and got a lift from senior Holland Shourds, who is tied for 20th overall with two holes left to play in the second round. After carding a 77 in the first round, Shourds had two birdies through 16 in the second round.

Sophomore Hunter Pate and Freshman Angelina Kim will also have to conclude their second rounds on Tuesday before playing the previously scheduled final round. Freshman Vanessa Richani was the only player for Long Beach State to finish both rounds before sundown, shooting an 81 in the first before an 83 in the second round.

Due to a medical issue, Khameryn Utu was pulled off of the course in the middle of the first round, but the team is hopeful the freshman will be able to tee off for the final round Tuesday.

"I feel like we shook off a lot of the rust today," said head coach Joey Cerulle at the conclusion of play. "Our goals is to continue getting better each round."
