Naysmith comes to the Beach as a graduate transfer from the University of Alabama-Birmingham
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State head men's golf coach Michael Wilson announced the addition of Murray Naysmith for the 2020-21 season.
Naysmith is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he competed on the men's golf team. With one year of eligibility remaining, Naysmith will compete at Long Beach State where he looks to pursue a master's degree in sport management.
"We are excited to welcome Murray to the Beach," Wilson said. "His experience as a top national collegiate player will have an immediate impact on our team. This past year, he registered a 70.78 scoring average in six collegiate starts. Murray's consistently solid play on the national and international stage, as well as his character and maturity as a person, make him a great addition to our team and program."
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Naysmith is ranked 173rd in the GolfStat national rankings as he boasted seven top-10 finishes and three top-5 showings while competing at UAB. He was named to the 2018 Conference USA All-Tournament Team as a sophomore.
Prior to his collegiate experience at UAB, Naysmith was part of the Scottish Area Team Championship winning team for three straight years (2012-14). He placed second in the Scottish U18 Order of Merit in 2015, before coming in second in the British Boys Amateur Stroke Play that same year, while competing at Royal Birkdale. Naysmith went on to win the Home Internationals for Scotland in 2015, while competing against teams from England, Wales, and Ireland.
