Outstanding Second Round From Maria Davis Highlights First Day Of Arizona Wildcat Invitational

Davis set a career-low and matched the tournament’s best round with a 67 in round two.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Maria Davis was on fire to close the second round of the Wildcat Invitational, firing five birdies in her final seven holes of the day to finish with a career-low round of 67, pacing a Top 5 effort for the team at Sewailo Golf Club Monday.
Davis shot a 77 in the first round, but after a clean even par first nine holes went five-under to rocket up the leaderboard to a tie for 10th overall at an even par 144 after two rounds. Her 67 matched tournament co-leader Vivan Hou for the best round of the day.
Fellow senior Holland Shourds had a consistent day with two rounds of 75 to place second for the Beach after the first day at 6-over. Hannah Ko was next, rebounding from a first-round 81 to shoot 71, one-under par.
Euna Pak had LBSU's best opening round with a 73, and finished the day with a two-round 153, tied for 43rd, while Hunter Pate shot 75 and 79 to sit in a tie for 48th overall. Individual Vanessa Richani had a pair of 80s on the day to round out the Long Beach State contingent.
Tournament hosts Arizona were 18-under to lead the team competition, followed by New Mexico State and Oregon.
