Seniors Maria Davis and Holland Shourds shared the team lead after Tuesday’s final round.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Senior Holland Shourds shot an even-par 72 to lead Long Beach State in the final round, as the Beach placed 8th overall at the Arizona Wildcat Invitational, playing in a strong field that included 10 Top 100 teams.
Shourds finished the tournament tied for 20th overall, sharing that position with fellow senior Maria Davis, who shot 78 Tuesday as both players finished 6-over par for the tournament.
Sophomore Hannah Ko also had a nice final day, shooting a one-over 73 to bounce back from an opening round 81 to finish in a tie for 34th overall. Hunter Pate and Euna Pak both finished the tournament 15-over par, tied for 52nd.
Arizona was the tournament winner on their home course, having built up a big lead Monday and holding on with an even par day as a team Tuesday. Denver made a big push, shooting 10-under par as a team Tuesday to move past the Beach. LBSU finished in front of Tulane, New Mexico, and UNLV, two of which entered the tournament rated higher than the Beach.
Long Beach State will be back in action in about a week and a half, traveling to Georgia to take part in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, hosted at the University of Georgia's home course. The tournament will take place over three days, with one round each day starting on Friday, March 20.
