COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Long Beach State continues its indoor track season on Friday at the Air Force Team Challenge, facing off against athletes from the host school, along with representatives from Utah Valley and Wichita State. LBSU will have 39 athletes making the trip, competing extensively on the track and in field events.
The event will begin at 3 p.m. MT with the men's and women's weight throws. The Beach will have five competitors on each side to get the throws underway. An hour later starts the men's long jump, which will be one of the busiest events for the Beach with six athletes jumping. Headlining the group is senior Jason Smith, who will look to build on his school-record performance and event win last weekend at the UW Invitational.
Track events start at 5 p.m. with qualifying heats in the 60m hurdles and 60m races. Those are the only events with qualifying heats and heat winners plus the next-fastest runners will form an eight-person final in each race. The Beach will also have six competitors in the women's 200m: Valencia Fortenberry, Madison Golden, LeNaya Griffin, Quwshayah Peters, Naomi Peterson, and Natalie Tolento.
The women's mile relay will also have a heavy Beach contingent, and that event will finish off the event with an 8:10 p.m. start time for the women and an 8:25 p.m. start time for the men's side.
