Orsi Hertzka and Elena Kotanchyan each scored seven goals as No. 15 Long Beach State defeated St. Francis (Pa.) 22-11 Saturday morning to open Wolverine Invitational play.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first quarter, Olivia Grim and Darby Huff scored to tie the game at the 4:20 mark.
Hertzka scored two goals in the final minutes of the first quarter as the Beach went into the second period tied at 4 with the Red Flash.
Hertzka continued to find the back of the cage in the second quarter, scoring three goals in the period give the Beach an 8-6 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Kotanchyan scored five goals has the Beach pulled away to take an 18-9 lead over St. Francis.
Along with Kotanchyan, Hertzka scored twice while Sarah Barker, Anne de Kleer and Camille Gallardo-Russell scored one goal in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Barker, Kotanchyan, Katelyn Johnson and de Kleer scored as the Beach took the victory.
The seven goals for Hertzka and Kotanchyan are new career highs for the team's leading scorers.
The Beach will be back in action when Long Beach State faces No. 7 Michigan at 2:40 (EST).
