No. 15 Long Beach State Falls To No. 7 Michigan

Orsi Hertzka scores four goals, but the Beach's comeback attempts falls short.
Finishing up the first day of play at the Wolverine Invitational, No. 15 Long Beach State's comeback attempt fell short in a 12-9 loss to No. 7 Michigan Saturday night.
Orsi Hertzka scored four goals to pace the Beach, but the Wolverines had an answer for each comeback attempt.
In the first quarter Michigan took an early 1-0 lead on a powerplay, but Hertzka answered right back on a 5-meter penalty shot to tie the game at 1.
The Wolverines (9-8) answered right back with a 3-0 run before Sarah Barker scored to cut Michigan's lead to 4-2 after the first quarter.
Elena Kotanchyan came out firing in the second quarter as she scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 4 at the 6:17 mark.
Hertzka gave the Beach (9-6) its first lead when she scored on another 5-meter shots to give LBSU a 5-4 lead with 4:47 left in the half.
Michigan answered right back with another 2-0 run to take a 6-5 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Maddie O'Reilly scored her third goal to give the Wolverines a 9-7 lead heading into the final quarter.
In the final period, Anne de Kleer and Jamie Oberman both scored on powerplays.
The Beach will be back in action when they take on Bucknell and Santa Clara on Sunday.
