Beach Tennis Earns Dominant 5-0 Win Over Grand Canyon

The Beach won a neutral site match in rainy conditions Friday afternoon in Hawai’i, comfortably defeating Grand Canyon, 6-0. The Beach won all of its singles matches in straight sets for a lopsided shutout victory.
HONOLULU – Long Beach State (6-2) won a rain-shortened match on Friday afternoon on the islands, earning a 5-0 victory over Grand Canyon (2-7) at the University of Hawai'i. The teams were forced to forego the doubles action and go straight into singles in order to dodge the storms.

In those singles matches, the Beach picked up five straight-set wins to clinch the victory before the rain started up again. Wiktoria Rutkowska was the first to earn a point for the Beach, winning 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Zara Lennon followed her up with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 before Lalita Devarakonda secured a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The clinching win went to Sadaf Sadeghvaziri at No. 3, where she was a 6-3, 6-3 winner. Closing out the result was Natalia Munoz, who earned a 7-5, 6-1 win at the top of the lineup. Emma Bardet at No. 2 won her first set 6-4 and was locked in a 5-5 tie in set two when play was stopped.

The Beach will hope for better weather tomorrow, facing the hosts Hawai'i in a Big West match.
