HONOLULU – Long Beach State is taking its longest trip of the season this weekend, facing a pair of matches out in Hawai'i. The Beach will take on Grand Canyon on Friday in a neutral site match in Honolulu, then take on the hosts Hawai'i on Saturday in a Big West Conference matchup.
The Beach went 1-1 last week, securing the team's first road win of the season in a comfortable 5-0 drubbing of UC Riverside. LBSU improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference action. Following this weekend's matches, the Beach returns home for nine consecutive matches at Rhodes Tennis Center.
Long Beach State is 2-1 all-time against Grand Canyon, with the last meeting coming way back in 1987. The Lopes are off to a 2-5 start to the 2020 season, including a 4-1 win over familiar foe UC Irvine.
Hawai'i is also 2-5 to start the year, with three of those losses coming against ranked teams. The Rainbow Wahine are 1-0 in conference with a 6-1 win at Irvine on their record. They also fell 4-1 against USC in their last match. Long Beach State has a 19-11 lead in the all-time series with Hawai'i, winning both matches against the Rainbow Wahine last season.
