Long Beach State Finishes The Gold Rush In Third Place

Senior Maria Davis finishes in the top five for the Beach.
SEAL BEACH, Calif. – A tremendous round from senior Maria Davis helped Long Beach State maintain their position in the final round of The Gold Rush, taking third place overall in the 13 team field at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach.
Long Beach State took third place overall, shooting 11-over-par on Tuesday to finish three strokes in front of Charlotte and BYU. Davis and sophomore Hannah Ko both finished in the top 10, using a late push to keep the Beach in their spot in the leaderboard.
Both players birdied 16 and 18 to rise up the leaderboard, as Davis finished with a 4-under 68 to place in the Top 5 with a 3-over 219. Ko was one stroke behind at 220 after three consistent rounds, closing with a 74 to place in a tie for 7th.
Holland Shourds birdied 15 and 16 to recover from a slow start to place third for Long Beach State, tied for 26th overall while Hunter Pate was one stroke back of the senior, tied for 29th.
Freshman Vanessa Richani was the top individual for Long Beach State, placing 55th overall after a 75 on Tuesday, her best round of the tournament.
Georgia pulled away with the team finished under par for the tournament, 1-under overall with two players in the Top 4. Additionally, individual Celeste Dao from the Bulldogs was the tournament champion, closing the tournament with a 68 to finish 7-under after three rounds.
After back-to-back weekends of competition Long Beach State will get a break, and return to action on March 9 at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
