No. 12 Long Beach State Defeats Pacific At Barbara Kalbus Invitational

The Beach bounces back from loss to No. 16 LMU to defeat Pacific 12-7.
IRVINE, Calif. — During the second day of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, No. 12 Long Beach State the Beach defeated No. 21 Pacific and lost to No. 16 Loyola Marymount.
Finishing the day against No. 21 Pacific, Jamie Oberman, Orsi Hertzka and Anne de Kleer each scored three goals as the Beach defeated the Tiger 12-7 on Saturday at Corona del Mar High School.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Anne de Kleer started the comeback as she scored after a pass from Orsi Hertzka to cut the lead to 2-1.
After goals from Elena Kotanchyan and Hertzka, the Beach took a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
From there the Beach went on a 9-5 run to take the victory to set up their final game of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational against No. 22 San Diego State on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.
In their first game Saturday morning, the Beach found itself in a tough battle against No. 16 Loyola Marymount.
Freshman Anne de Kleer scored three goals in the contest, but it wasn't enough as LBSU's comeback attempt fell short in an 11-8 loss.
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-0 after the first quarter, but the Beach stormed back to outscore the Lions 4-3 in the second quarter to trail LMU 6-4 at halftime.
Kelsey Snelgar scored two of her four goals in the third quarter as the Lions outscored the Beach 5-0 to take an 11-4 lead into the final period.
LBSU's defense held LMU scoreless in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Lions used up the shot clock on each possession to wind down the clock and stop the Beach's comeback attempt.
