The Beach Prepares For Barbara Kalbus Invitational

No. 12 Long Beach State opens tournament play against Big West foe, UC Irvine.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — After a week off, No. 12 Long Beach State will be back in action this weekend when the Beach travels to UC Irvine to compete in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.
The Beach is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Triton Invitational where the team picked up wins against Loyola Marymount and Indiana University.
LBSU will open play on Friday against host No. 6 UC Irvine at 4:15 p.m. The last time the Beach took on their Big West foe, the Anteaters won 10-7 at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
In that contest, sophomore Orsi Hertzka scored three goals while UCI's Tara Prentice four goals.
This season the Elena Kotanchyan and Hertzka lead the way for the Beach with 25 and 20 goals, respectively.
Prentice leads the way for the Anteaters with 39 goals and Piper Smith has scored 22.
After their contest against UCI, the Beach will play either No. 4 USC or No. 16 LMU.
Other teams included in the 16-team field are: No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Hawaii, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 7 Cal, No. 8 UCSD, No. 9 UCSB, No. 10 Michigan, No. 13 San Jose State, No. 15 UC Davis and No. 21 University of Pacific.
