Long Beach State Tennis Breezes Past UC Riverside, 5-0

The Beach got back on track with a Big West win on Friday afternoon, blanking UC Riverside 5-0. All four of LBSU’s singles wins were in straight sets and LBSU was also winning all three of the unfinished matches on the day.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Beach improved to 2-0 in Big West play with a comfortable 5-0 win over UC Riverside on Friday afternoon. All four of Long Beach State's singles wins were in straight sets, and the Beach were also winning the two unfinished matches when the result was clinched.
:"It was a very dominant performance from the team today," said Beach head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello of the win.
The matchup started with Long Beach State clinching the double point. Carlota Casasampere was added to the lineup and she partnered with Emma Bardet for a 6-0 win at the No. 3 doubles spot. At No. 2 doubles, Lalita Devarakonda and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri picked up a 6-3 win to put the Beach up 1-0.
In singles, Sadeghvaziri earned a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot. It was the bottom four of the lineup that picked up singles victories. In order from 4-6, Zara Lennon was a 6-2, 6-4 winner, Devarakonda won 6-1, 6-2, and Casasampere earned a 6-0, 6-4 win. Both Munoz and Lennon won the first set 6-4 at the top of the lineup and had second-set leads, but the match was called with the Beach clinching the win.
LBSU remains on the road with two matches in Honolulu, Hawai'i next weekend. The Beach will face Grand Canyon in a neutral site matchup on Friday, followed by a Big West clash with Hawai'i on Saturday.
