LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach (1-1) opened its home schedule on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over UC Davis (4-2) at Rhodes Tennis Center. Long Beach State won eight of nine matches to start of conference play with a victory. It was a very competitive match, with four of the six singles matches going to three sets and all doubles contests within two games, but the Beach came through when it counted to secure the victory.
"On a difficult day where we didn't quite have our rhythm, we battled and came up with a strong win," said LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm proud of how we competed today."
The Beach swept all three doubles matches, but they were all competitive. Natalia Munoz and Zara Lennon teamed up for a 7-5 win at No. 1, and the two remaining teams earned 6-4 wins. Emma Bardet and Wiktoria Rutkowska were winners at No. 2 and Lalita Devarakonda and Carlota Casasampere secured the win at the third spot.
In singles play, Sadaf Sadeghvaziri and Bardet were the straight-set winner, with a 6-4, 7-5 win for Sadeghvaziri at No. 3 and a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win for Bardet at No. 2.
The Beach will remain at home for the next match on the schedule, facing San Diego State on Feb. 8.
