Long Beach State will take its four-match winning streak on the road, with a non-conference test at San Diego waiting on Thursday, followed by a Big West meeting with UC Riverside on Friday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a successful four-match homestand, the Beach will look to take its winning streak out on the road with matches against San Diego and UC Riverside on tap. LBSU will visit the Toreros on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. before facing the Highlanders at the same time on Friday in Riverside.
Â
The Beach are currently 4-1 after four straight wins, with the only blemish coming in the season opener at No. 19 USC. LBSU also has a conference win over UC Davis already this season.
Â
So far, it's been the bottom three of the lineup that has helped propel the Beach to victory. The No. 4-6 players for the Beach have a combined 11-2 record in dual match play, with Lalita Devarakonda going a perfect 5-0 at the No. 6 spot. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Zara Lennon have each gone 3-1 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Â
Long Beach State has faced San Diego in each of the last three seasons, going 1-2 against the Toreros. In last season's meeting, USD earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory at Rhodes Tennis Center. LBSU's last win at San Diego was a 7-0 win in the season opener back in 2002.
Â
The Beach are 23-0 all-time against UC Riverside, and it has been a decidedly one-sided rivalry over the years. Long Beach State has outscored the Highlanders by a whopping 151-10 margin over those 23 matches.
