Beach Tennis Earns 5-2 Win Over Oregon

Long Beach State won its third straight match thanks to a 5-2 victory over Oregon on Friday afternoon. The Beach posted comfortable doubles victories and had three straight-set singles wins to secure the victory over the Ducks.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach opened the weekend with a 5-2 victory over Oregon, improving to 3-1 on the season with a third consecutive home win.
"It was a strong win for the team today against a Pac-12 program," said LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "It's a good start to the weekend."
The day got off to a good start in doubles, as the top two teams of Zara Lennon/Natalia Munoz and Emma Bardet/Wiktoria Rutkowska won 6-2 and 6-1, respectively, to give the Beach to the first point of the match.
In singles, it was Lalita Devarakonda who claimed the first decision, flying to a 6-0, 6-1 victory to improve to 4-0 on the campaign. Emma Bardet was soon to follow at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-3, 6-2 to make it a 3-0 Beach advantage.
The rest of the matches went to three sets, and it was Munoz who earned the clinching point for the Beach. She picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at the top of the lineup. Sadaf Sadeghvaziri also picked up a singles win, claiming a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.
LBSU will be back on the courts for an 11 a.m. matchup against Saint Mary's on Saturday, looking for a fourth straight victory at Rhodes Tennis Center.
