Beach Indoor Track Heads to Don Kirby Elite in New Mexico

In the final regular season meet on the indoor track schedule, Long Beach State will take part in the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque, N.M. The two-day event is being hosted at the same site as the NCAA Indoor Championships which will take place exactly one month later.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Nearly 50 athletes will represent Long Beach State at the Don Kirby Elite this weekend at a meet hosted by the University of New Mexico. The two-day event begins on Thursday at 1 p.m. and resumes on Friday at 8:30 a.m. to conclude the meet.
Thursday's action opens with field competition, and the Beach will be heavily represented in the long jumps and the weight throws. There will be five Beach participants in both the men's and women's weight throws, as well as the men's long jump. Jason Smith has won that event in each of the first indoor meets of the season, but he will focus on the high jump this weekend, where he is LBSU's lone competitor.
On the track, there are nine participants for the Beach in the women's 200m, which makes it the busiest race on the weekend for Long Beach State. Friday is a much busier day on the track, starting with the first of three rounds of the 60m hurdles at 9:30 a.m. The Beach will then have five participants in the women's 60m and four in the men's 60, with qualifying rounds starting at 10:10 a.m.
In the longer races later in the day, Long Beach State has six women set to run the 800. The event will finish with the 4x400m relay, starting at 2:30 p.m.
