No. 14 Women's Water Polo Picks Up Two Wins At UCLA Mini

Sophomore Orsi Hertzka scores nine goals as the Beach defeats No. 13 San Jose State and No. 16 LMu.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Continuing its strong start to the season, No. 14 Long Beach State picked up wins against No. 16 Loyola Marymount and No. 13 San Jose State Saturday at the UCLA Mini tournament.
Sophomore Orsi Hertzka led the way for the Beach (5-0) scoring a total of nine goals on the day.
Opening play against LMU, the Beach led after each quarter before finishing with the 10-8 victory. Along with Hertzka, junior Elena Kotanchyan scored two goals. In the cage, senior Eirini Patras had seven saves.
In the final contest of the day, LBSU took an early 4-2 lead against SJSU after the first quarter making the most of its 6-on-5 opportunities, scoring three times on power plays. Hertzka scored two of her five goals in the period.
In the second and third quarters, SJSU and LBSU each scored four goals as the Beach took a 10-9 lead.
In the final quarter, Hertzka scored twice as the Beach withstood the Spartans comeback to take the 13-11 victory.
Patras had 12 saves in the cage and Kotanchyan scored three goals, while Jamie Oberman and Anne de Kleer scored twice.
The Beach will be back in the pool when they travel to La Jolla to compete in the Triton Invitational Feb. 8-9. LBSU will open play against LMU.
