Heading into the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule, Long Beach State women’s tennis is adding reinforcements in the form of mid-year signee Inbar Cohen. A native of Israel, Cohen is immediately eligible for the Beach and will be a freshman for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Beach Tennis head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello has announced the addition of mid-year signee Inbar Cohen prior to the start of the spring season. Cohen comes to the Beach from Tel Aviv, Israel, where she was a top-ranked player in her home country.
"We are happy to welcome Inbar to our Beach Tennis family," said Hilt-Costello of the newest addition to the program. "As a more mature freshman who has served two years of military service before arriving in Long Beach, we are excited to add a player with a strong work ethic and high expectations to our returning Big West championship team."
Back in her home country of Israel, she reached a No. 1 ranking, and she has earned international rankings as well. Cohen has been ranked as high as No. 704 in the ITF junior rankings, which sorts the best U18 players in the world. In the WTA rankings for all female players in the world, she has a highest ranking of No. 1380 in singles and No. 996 in doubles.
Cohen is immediately eligible to compete for the Beach heading into the dual match season, which gets underway on Feb. 1 at No. 12 USC. Prior to that match, LBSU will tune up for the regular season by hosting its annual winter invite this weekend at Rhodes Tennis Center, running from Jan. 17-19.\
